The growth of the internet has made it easier than ever to work from home or virtually anywhere you want to be in the world. Moreover, you can make money from freelancing, working part-time, or even full-time if you want and the income can be just as much, if not better than working in an actual office.
There’s no shortage of opportunities either—whatever skills you have, education, or work experience, there’s bound to be something for you out there.
Having said that, here are a few ways to make money online.
How to make money online from home – Jobs
If your ultimate goal is to quit your day job and work from home, these are some of the things you can try doing.
Writing a blog can be extremely rewarding. Not only do you get to share your thoughts to the world, but there are also plenty of opportunities to make money too, including:
- Paid advertising
- Affiliate marketing
- Selling your own products and services
Blogs are fairly cheap to run as well. And, if you already have a business, blogging can be a great way to expand your reach and find leads.
However, you probably won’t get your first paycheck until months, or even years after you’ve first started blogging. It’s also going to take a lot of hard work, perseverance, and smarts. Once it gets rolling though, you could be earning upwards of 5 digits per month, and maybe millions per year.
To help get you started, here’s a guide on how to start a WordPress blog on Bluehost.
In line with blogging, writing and editing is another way to make good money online. Unlike blogging, however, you can get paid after finishing your articles or after a pre-determined amount of time, meaning you can cash out on your efforts faster.
As a writer, you could either choose to work freelance for multiple companies, part-time as a side hustle, or be like me—working full-time for a single, awesome company. Regardless of what you choose, it’s a great profession that I highly recommend.
If this is what you want to do, Upwork.com, Fiverr.com, and Freelancer.com are great places to look for work.
Other freelance jobs
If you don’t like writing, don’t worry. There are other freelance jobs you can find online, such as:
- Graphic design – If you can create eye-catching images either physically or digitally, you can use your talents to make money from home.
- Video creation – If videos are more your thing, you can definitely make money from creating or editing videos.
- Website development – Like the other jobs you can find here, there’s a huge market for web developers. They seem to be making pretty good money too, so if you know how to code and design a website, there should be plenty of opportunities waiting for you.
A lot of call centers are now hiring remote workers to be a part of their teams. This is probably part of their cost-cutting strategies but nonetheless, the profession still pays well and it’s still a great way to earn money from home.
If you have customer service experience, a computer that meets the company’s requirements, a headset, a microphone, and a solid internet connection, you’re pretty much good to go.
As usual, Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer are great places to visit.
Among all the jobs here, being a virtual assistant (VA) is probably the profession that offers the most variety. This is because the tasks of a VA can change from one employer to another.
I, too, tried being a VA and my tasks included managing and creating social media posts, writing content, research, and curating pictures. However, other virtual assistants may have other tasks, such as:
- Organizing emails
- Scheduling appointments
- Booking flights
- Reserving hotels and restaurants
- Booking a taxi or Uber
And essentially anything that helps your boss focus on the bigger, more managerial tasks.
Upwork and Fiverr always have VA jobs available if this kind of job is what you’re looking for.
Like VAs, there’s always an open slot for English as a Second Language (ESL) teachers. So, if you’re qualified, you’ve got plenty of opportunities to get hired.
Speaking of qualifications, ESL teachers don’t have crazy requirements either. Although some companies are looking for people with degrees in English, there are also those that accept workers with any bachelor’s degree.
So, if you’re a college graduate, are good with kids, speak excellent English without an audible accent, you’re pretty much qualified already.
Again, Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer are great places to visit but, personally, I suggest you go directly to companies such as:
You probably saw this coming but, yes, selling online is another great to make money. You can make it your side hustle but if you’re really into it, you can make it your full-time job as well.
If you want to try it out and see whether this kind of work fits you, I suggest looking inside your own home for things that you can sell such as old clothes, jewelry, furniture, electronics, and even recyclable goods that you probably just throw away. This way, you don’t have to shell out a lot of money (if any) and still cash out.
If you’re sure about making this route your full-time job though, I highly recommend signing up for FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon). This way, you don’t have to worry about storage, packing, shipping, and customer service because Amazon does it for you. Plus, all your listed items automatically becomes eligible for Prime shipping, making them more attractive to buyers.
How to make money online – Legit side hustles
What you’ll be seeing are easy tasks that you can make money off of by doing things that you’re already doing. To be honest though, they aren’t going to make you rich but I still think they’re worth mentioning. So, here they are:
You’re already sharing your opinions on social media anyway so why not make a little extra money while you’re doing it?
With paid surveys, you earn points every time you complete a survey which you can then use to redeem rewards such as gift cards, coupons, or actual money sent through PayPal.
Also, I suggest you sign up for as many survey sites as you can since most of them only allow you to take a limited number. These are my favorite ones:
I love shopping, you love shopping, everybody loves shopping! Unfortunately, shopping can also be quite expensive. With cashback, however, you get a portion of your shopping bill back.
This makes it a great way to earn/save money while you’re shopping online. That being said, I prefer using these sites:
This is a fairly new concept to me but apparently, you can get paid for testing out websites. This seems to offer better payouts in less time compared to completing surveys too. If you want to try this out, visit these websites:
Isn’t it great how people can now have careers without having to leave their own homes? It pays well, it’s comfortable, there’s growth, and the time you spend commuting, you can use to pursue your own passions or spend with your loved ones instead. Being able to make money online truly is a wonderful thing.
