It may sound too good to be true but there are things that you can do right now to get free money. This can range from just a couple of bucks to maybe hundreds, if not thousands of dollars of cold hard cash.
This money can be from multiple places too such as banks with promo offers, websites with signing up bonuses, sweepstakes, government funds you haven’t collected, and several others more.
Now, I honestly don’t believe there’s a high chance of you getting richer than everybody else just from gathering free money but at the very least, these can help you boost your savings.
So, without further ado, here are a few fast and easy ways to get free money.
How to get free money from the government
Let’s start with these because these can be hit or miss. Meaning, the government may or may not have money that you haven’t claimed or assistance programs that you can take advantage of if you’re eligible.
That being said, although it may not be guaranteed money, I think it’s a good place to start
Retrieve unclaimed money
Companies might have owed you money but you didn’t get paid. These companies probably had full intention of paying you, too, but the problem is that they just couldn’t reach you.
Maybe you changed your address or your phone number before any payments could be made. Whatever the case may be, you might be asking:
Where does this money go?
Well, it goes to the state.
The state protects your money and keeps it from returning to the company that owes you. This way, you can claim your unclaimed property whenever you so choose. Also, do note that claiming your money can either be free or you might also be charged a small amount.
Nonetheless, here are a couple of sites you can visit:
- Unclaimed.org – Just choose your state and the site automatically redirects you to the said state’s official website for unclaimed properties. From there, just enter the required information and you should be able to find out whether or not you have unclaimed money.
- MissingMoney.com – Endorsed by the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators, MissingMoney is also simple to use. Just click on the search tab and enter your name, city, and state.
Exchange damaged money
Let’s face it. No matter how careful you are, you can also be a clutz sometimes.
Maybe you forgot to take your money out of your pockets before putting your jeans in the washing machine, or maybe your dog ate it because you left it on the couch, or maybe you spilled coffee all over it. Whatever the case may be, don’t go throwing away your money just yet because they can still be exchanged for newer, useable ones.
Here’s where you can take them:
- The bank – If your money is damaged to a point where you can still clearly tell the value of the money (e.g. small rips, slightly vandalized, etc), you can take your money to the bank and have it replaced there.
- The Bureau of Engraving and Printing – You can still take your slightly damaged money here but, personally, I think the bank option is easier. For bigger damages where you can’t figure out the value of the money without special inspections, however, you can either mail or deliver your money here.
Claim forgotten pension benefits
Have you ever worked for a company that closed down? Because I know I have and it sucks. I mean, I’m not the only one who finds sending out tons of applications and waiting on a reply that might not ever come troublesome, is it?
But, you know what else sucks about working for a company that closed? Forgetting that you probably have unclaimed pension!
That’s right! The company you worked for probably owes you pension money! If they do, then you can claim your pension benefit through the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC).
Other ways to get free money from the government
Retrieving unclaimed money, exchanging damaged and mutilated cash, and claiming forgotten pension benefits are three of the more general ways people can get free money from the government.
However, what if you needed money for more specific reasons? Like, paying your college tuition or starting a business, for example. Well, perhaps the government can help you out, too.
Here are a few other assistance programs from the government that you might be able to take advantage of:
- Federal pell grants – For undergraduate students who need financial aid. You can get a little over $6000 here that, by the way, you don’t need to repay.
- Down payment grants – Different states have different programs aimed at helping people afford the down payments for their own homes, so check this out and see what your state offers. Maybe they can give you free money to help you afford your down payment.
- Rural housing repair – Besides down payments, the government also helps very low-income homeowners renovate their homes. Grants, which you don’t have to pay back, can be as much as $7500.
- Unclaimed veteran’s insurance – If you or anyone you know is a veteran, you might want to check here for unclaimed insurance funds.
- Child care assistance – For eligible families, the government has separate child care assistance programs for each state.
- Healthcare insurance for kids – Through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), your kids can have free or low-cost healthcare insurance.
- Unemployment benefits – Jobless? No worries. The government has temporary unemployment benefits you might be able to get.
Moving on from getting free money from the government, you’ll be seeing how to get free money online in this next part. More specifically though, free money paid to you via PayPal.
So, if you don’t have a PayPal account yet, I suggest you sign up and link your PayPal account with your bank account right now because the internet is a gold mine for easy money.
How to get free money from PayPal – Survey and GPT sites
Paid survey sites are, well… websites that pay you to take surveys (duh) while GPT (get-paid-to) sites pay you to do a bunch of simple tasks such as reading emails, watching advertisements, signing up for new websites, and several others.
Do note, however, that while these websites typically don’t pay a lucrative amount to accomplish tasks, signing up for them is free and redeeming the money you earned doesn’t cost a single penny. Some of them even have signing up bonuses!
That being said, I’ll be focusing on survey and GPT sites with signing up incentives. It is, after all, free money.
When it comes to GPT sites, InboxDollars is one of the easiest ways to earn free cash online. Here, they reward you to take paid surveys, watch videos, play games, and read emails.
The catch, however, is that you need to earn at least $30 before you can actually redeem your money. This should be pretty easy though considering all the things they pay you to do. Plus, they have a $5 sign up bonus to make it even easier.
SendEarnings is another paid survey site with a $5 signing bonus but actually, the brand is owned by InboxDollars. For this reason, both sites work in similar ways where they pay their members to do simple tasks such as completing surveys, reading emails, and watching videos.
SurveySavvy doesn’t have a sign up bonus but it does have an app, SurveyConnect, that gets you a minimum of $5-15 per month – and I think that’s even better.
You see, SurveySavvy rewards its members who install SurveyConnect on either their phones, tablets, or computers. You can install it on a maximum of 3 devices with each device getting you $5. You do, however, need to remain an active member but that’s easy. All you have to do is answer surveys and you’re good to go.
Speaking of surveys, they, of course, pay you for each survey you complete. Plus, if you refer people, you get paid every time they complete surveys too.
With FusionCash, you can do a bunch of stuff to earn money, including (but not limited to):
- Watching videos
- Accomplishing specific tasks
- Downloading apps
- Playing games
- Referring friends
- And, of course, completing surveys
I honestly don’t use FusionCash as often as the other sites on this list but they do have a $5 signing bonus that could bump your savings by a little bit.
Unlike most other survey sites that also pay you to refer other people along with completing surveys, iSurveyWorld doesn’t have a referral program at this point in time. Unfortunate, really, especially since it’s a legitimate site that I feel is a good way for people to make extra money.
Nonetheless, the site does offer a $5 signing bonus so go and sign up for it anyway.
So, have you noticed how the sites I’ve listed so far give you $5 just for signing up? Seems like there’s a pattern here, right?
Well, Vindale Research is here to break that streak by paying you… wait for it… ONE DOLLAR!
Sucks. I know. But, hey, it’s free money so you might as well take it.
On the other hand, Vindale Research is actually one of the highest paying survey sites I know of which, in my opinion, more than makes up for their puny bonus.
Other survey sites to get free money
While the sites above have signup bonuses, these next ones don’t. However, I do think you should still sign up for as many of them as you can.
I mean, after all, signing up is free and by being a member of more survey and GPT sites, you also get to answer more surveys and complete more tasks which then means more opportunities of claiming free money.
How to get free money on PayPal – Receipt apps and cashback
Unless you go ham on coupons, you have to pay good money every time you shop. That’s an inescapable fact regardless of where you go and what you buy.
However, with receipt scanning apps and cashback, you can get a portion of your bill back and I believe you, your friends, your family, and everyone else should be using them.
They’re all easy to use and, I mean, you’re essentially missing out on free money if you don’t use them so you might as well just capitalize on your opportunities.
Having said that, here are a few of my favorite ones:
RetailMeNot is one of America’s favorite cashback/coupon sites and for good reason – their cashback offers are huge!
Plus, they have a wide number of affiliate retailers to choose from which, of course, includes the biggest ones such as Amazon, Macy’s, Adidas, and many others more.
RetailMeNot also has an app so you can do your shopping on the go and a browser extension that allows you to go directly to your favorite retailer’s website and still have access to their deals and cashback.
Ebates is another great site that you can use to save money when you’re shopping. In terms of free money, their cashback offers are tremendous! As a matter of fact, they have affiliate stores where cashback offers can go as high as 40%.
They also have a $10 signing bonus and, if you can get other people to join Ebates, you get $25+ for your referral too!
Oh, and they also have a credit card that you doesn’t require you to pay an annual fee. Plus, if you use the credit card to purchase from any of Ebates’ list of offers, you get 3% cashback added on top of the original deal.
With a mobile app, a browser extension, and an easy-to-use website, I think Mr. Rebates is one of the more convenient cashback sites out there, and that’s why I like using it.
Another reason is their referral program. Basically, when your referrals use Mr. Rebates to purchase anything, you get 20% of what they get from their cashback. So, even if you’re not using Mr. Rebates, you can still get free money if your referrals do.
With over 18,600 affiliate stores, Coupon Cactus has by far the biggest pool of partner retailers of any cashback/coupon site that I know of. For this reason alone, I think it’s a site that I think everyone who wants free money should know about.
They’re not just about coupons and cashback, however. Their site also has lists on stores with free shipping, sales, and clearances.
Ibotta is a receipt app – one of the most popularly used ones, if I might add.
Receipt apps including Ibotta generally work in similar ways.
Basically, they have a list of items where they offer a portion of the price back to you. You choose offers that are already on your shopping list (or add them to your list if you want), go to the store and shop as usual, upload a clear picture of your receipt, and voila! Cashback!
Checkout 51 works a lot like Ibotta with pretty much the only difference being this site is focused more on grocery shopping.
Also, they update their offers every Thursday so if you do decide to use this app, I suggest doing your groceries any time between Thursday and the weekends. This way, the offers are less likely to run out on you.
Other cashback sites and receipt apps you can use to get free money:
Naturally, there are many more of these same kinds of sites out there but the ones I listed are what I like to use most of the time. Here are a few others:
How to get free money online – Sweepstakes
Survey sites, GPT sites, cashback sites, and receipt scanning apps are ways where you can consistently get free money online.
However, there are websites where you can get so much more if you win their sweepstakes. Plus, signing up for these sites and earning their entries is free so, really, you have nothing to lose and hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to win.
Of course, you won’t win every time. You might not even win at all. But, if you do win, it’s easy money that you can use to beef up your savings account.
Opinion Outpost is a paid survey site but instead of earning cash for completing surveys, you earn points.
These points can be used to redeem rewards such as gift cards, PayPal money, or entries to their sweepstakes. If you win, you get a whopping $10,000.
Another survey site with sweepstakes, Nielsen Digital Voice does their raffle every month (more often than Opinion Outpost) where the winners get to take home as much as $1,000.
To earn entries, all you have to do is be an active member of their community which means you should answer surveys as often as you can.
Uhh… This one’s another paid survey site with sweepstakes. Like Nielsen Digital Voice, GlobalTestMarket rewards you points and entries every time you complete a survey.
The difference, however, is that GlobalTestMarket is a little more generous with their entries since they also reward their members even if they screen out of a survey.
Well, what do you know. Another survey site with sweepstakes.
Unlike the other survey sites, however, Toluna’s sweepstakes happen everyday! Also, you can use the points you earn from surveys to get even more entries and increase your chances of winning.
Finally! A non-survey site with sweepstakes!
ReceiptPal is a receipt scanning app that gets you cashback for taking a picture of your receipts.
Unlike Ibotta and most other receipt apps, however, ReceiptPal is a little different. Here, you’ll get a “point card” which you will have to fill with pictures of 4 different receipts. Every point card you complete gives you 100 points which you can use to redeem cash and other rewards.
However, point cards aren’t unlimited. This is where your sweepstakes entries come in.
If you run out of point cards, you can submit your receipts to the sweepstakes card where you get 2 entries per valid receipt. Also, every point card you finish earns you 1 sweepstakes entry.
Their sweepstakes have 3 entry periods each week.
Money can be free.
The government may have its lapses but at its very core, it’s there to help its people. One of these ways is to give financial aid for specific purposes and to certain demographics, and hold on to your unclaimed property.
Now, when it comes to getting free money online, let me just remind you of this one thing:
Once you have that, you’ve made your first step into adding a few couple bucks to maybe thousands of dollars in your bank account.
If this was at all helpful, show us some love and share us with your friends!
