I think I can speak for most of the women out there – Eyelash extensions are the bomb!

They are definitely one of the best treatments that the beauty industry has ever invented.

With just a single session, you can rock longer, fuller, and thicker lashes.

This makes it easier to flaunt natural or minimal makeup looks.

Unfortunately, wearing eyelash extensions sometimes means that you have to take extreme care of your lashes.

Some even believe that you need to avoid doing certain activities like steam baths, saunas and swimming.

With this in mind, you may wonder whether you can swim with eyelash extensions.

can you swim with eyelash extensions?

Heather Elrod, the CEO of Amazing Lash Studio, shared the good news that women can still swim with eyelash extensions.

You just need to make sure to thoroughly cleanse and wash your lashes after your swimming session.

This helps get rid of salt and chlorine, which can negatively affect your lash extensions’ retention.

how long to wait before getting eyelash extensions wet

The old advice recommends waiting for at least 48 hours before you get your lashes wet.

But now, you can wait for a minimum of four hours. This is especially true if the lash tech used a cyanoacrylate adhesive.

This type of lash glue dries and cures right after the session. If your lash artist uses a nanomist, it also helps quicken the curing time of your lash adhesive.

Before, the adhesives used during lash extension treatments needed at least two days to completely cure.

Now, lash glues have been developed with a quicker curing time.

So you don’t have to wait too long for the adhesive to strongly secure your lash extensions.

After the waiting period, you can proceed to perform activities that involve your lashes getting wet. Yep! This includes swimming.

But take note that you still need to confirm with your lash technician about this.

Ask if you can immediately wet your lashes just to make sure you don’t experience any issues.

What happens if you swim with eyelash extensions

Swimming with lash extensions may lead to damage and fallouts. However, this will only happen if you don’t practice caution.

To make sure that you don’t damage your lashes, you have to take note of the following reminders:

can you swim with eyelash extensions in the pool

You can swim in the pool even if you have eyelash extensions.

It’s safe as long as you don’t soak your lashes for hours.

Remember that swimming pools are treated with chlorine.

This chemical can be extremely harsh on skin and hair.

Chlorine can make hair dry and frizzy.

This is why your eyelash extensions may get heavily damaged if you expose it to chlorine for too long.

When your lash extensions get really dry, the adhesive used to bond it with your lashes may get affected as well.

When this happens, your lash extensions may not only look bad, but they may also fall out.

can you swim in the ocean with eyelash extensions?

You can also swim in the ocean with eyelash extensions. Like swimming in the pool, it doesn’t pose huge risks to your lashes.

You just need to practice caution and also avoid exposing your lashes to saltwater for too long.

Salt can affect your lash extensions’ retention.

It directly affects the adhesive used to bond your artificial lashes to your actual lashes.

When you expose your lashes to saltwater too much, the glue used to attach it might break down.

When this happens, your lash extensions will prematurely fall out.

This doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy swimming at the beach.

You can still enjoy dipping in the ocean as long as you limit your time in it.

Another essential thing to remember is that you have to watch out for huge and strong ocean waves.

The intense water pressure may cause your lash extensions to fall out. To be safe, make sure your lashes won’t get directly hit by the strong waves.

You can also wear goggles so you can protect your lashes when you go swimming in the pool or the ocean.

lash extension care after swimming

You need to take extreme care of your lashes when you go swimming. This helps ensure that your lash extensions won’t break or fall out.

Aside from this, you also need to perform after-swimming care tips starting with the following:

Wash your lashes with an oil-free cleanser

Invest in a high-quality eyelash cleanser. Make sure it’s oil free, so it doesn’t break down the adhesive used on your eyelash extensions.

Get a foaming bottle and mix the lash cleanser with distilled water.

Use a lash comb or a spoolie to coat the lashes with the foam cleanser. Use a soft makeup brush to create a foam cleanser if you don’t have a foaming bottle.

Just add a few drops of eyelash cleanser to your clean palm.

Swirl the cleanser using your makeup brush until it forms a foam.

Then, apply it on your lashes using a forward and back motion. Make sure you use gentle movements.

Rinse your lashes thoroughly with water

Next, rinse the foam cleanser with water. Make sure that there is no residue left afterward.

When rinsing your lashes, make sure to go gentle about it. Avoid rinsing it by running your lashes under high-pressure water.

Instead, scoop some water on your palm and dip your eyes in it.

Repeat the process until you rinse off all the soap and residue.

Dry them carefully after washing

Grab a lint free towel and pat dry your lashes until they are completely dry.

Make sure to be gentle when patting so you don’t accidentally rub and tug your lashes.

Remember that rubbing your lashes vigorously may result in lash breakage and fallouts. So make sure you remain gentle when drying your lashes.

If you don’t have a lint free towel, you can use facial tissue instead.

Another option is to use a blow dryer to remove excess water from your lashes.

Use the cool and low setting, so you don’t expose your lashes to heat and intense air pressure.

Comb your eyelash extensions

Once they dry, comb your lashes with a spoolie or a lash brush.

This helps get rid of clumps and maintains the style and shape of your eyelash extensions.

Takeaway

You can still enjoy fun activities like swimming in the pool or the sea.

You just need to practice caution to avoid damaging your lash extensions.

Also, you have to beware of how to properly clean and maintain your eyelash extensions. This way, you will be able to keep your gorgeous lashes until your next lash extension treatment.
