Top 10 Best Mattresses for Fibromyalgia

Best Mattresses for Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia — intense aches and pains all around your body possibly caused by an abnormality in how your brain processes pain signals. A lot of times, these nagging pains disrupt sleep, leading to chronic fatigue, stress, mood swings, and possibly even depression.

Now, according to studies, sleep deprivation also has a negative impact on how your body controls and copes with pain, making the relationship between lack of sleep and widespread pain somewhat of a paradox — your body feels painful, you lose sleep and when you lose sleep, your body feels more pain.

The worst part is that there’s currently no cure for the disease. You can, however, manage it with better sleep.

Having said that, we compiled a list of what we think are the best mattresses for fibromyalgia. We’ll also tell you how we chose these beds, how you can pick yours, and how to make them last as long as they should. Let’s start!

How we chose

Pressure relief and supportiveness

How firm a bed feels largely depends on how much you weigh and your sleeping position (more on this later) but according to research, a mattress that feels medium firm to YOU is what makes for an ideal bed.

Specifically for people with fibromyalgia, we think you’d benefit from a mattress that’s both pressure relieving and supportive.

Pressure relief, needless to say, helps ease you to sleep with less pain on your pressure points. On the other hand, supportive mattresses help keep your spine in a neutral position which, in turn, helps prevent back pain, nerve impingement, and other related injuries.

Temperature regulation

Another complaint you might have with fibromyalgia is that when you’re exposed to chilly environments, your pain flares up.

However, a mattress that sleeps hot can also be uncomfortable to the point where it disturbs your sleep — you sweat, you scoot to the cooler side of the bed, and you wake up.

We took this into consideration when we were compiling our list and looked for mattresses with designs that can help regulate your sleeping temperatures.

Motion isolation and edge support

Again, the point of all this is to prevent you from waking up mid-sleep. Motion isolation and edge support are particularly important if you have someone else sleeping beside you, like a girlfriend, boyfriend, or pet perhaps.

When a mattress effectively isolates movement, you’re less likely to be woken up from your sleep if your partner moves around.

Edge support, on the other hand, allows you to use every single inch of your mattress. So, sleeping near the edge of the mattress won’t make you feel as if you’re rolling off of your bed. Plus, this also allows space between you and your partner which, in turn, also helps you sleep cooler.

Now, if you sleep alone, you’d probably still want a mattress with solid edge support, particularly if the pain makes getting in and out of bed challenging.

Price-to-value ratio

With or without fibromyalgia, this is something we always take note of. Basically, if the entirety of the mattress comes at a reasonable price, it has a chance to be featured on our list.

Brand reputation

Don’t confuse this for popularity. That’s not what we’re looking at.

What we kept an eye on is what customers and other organizations think of the brand. I mean, if we had any problems with our mattresses, we’d want the company we bought it from to help us find the best possible solution. We thought you’d want that, too.

That said, we checked the companies if they were accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB). If the organization recognizes them, that’s a sign that the company does their part in helping out their customers. However, even if a company wasn’t BBB accredited, its products still had the chance to be featured on our list if we felt like they’ve built an honest reputation (based on the customer reviews we’ve read).

Trial periods and warranties

The standard seems to be 100 nights to try out the bed and 10 years worth of company warranty.

We made this our minimum criteria so rest assured you won’t be seeing any mattress on this list that offers less.

We did this because we think it’s more than enough — and that’s what you deserve. Experts say that your body needs around 30 days to adjust to a new mattress, so the 100-night trial period should be more than sufficient. In case you don’t like it, you can always return it for a full refund. Now, if you do decide to keep your mattress, the warranty period should help you shoulder the cost of repairs.

Here are a few other things we considered:

  • Off-gassing – Intense off-gassing (bad odor) coming from your new mattress can make it impossible to use. Sometimes, this will only last for a couple of days but other times, it might take a week, maybe more. Needless to say, the less time it takes for the smell to dissipate, the better.

Unique features – Free stuff, eco-friendliness, luxuriousness, certifications — these are things that add value to the mattress. So, we took note of these, too.

The best mattresses for fibromyalgia

The best mattresses for fibromyalgia are mattresses that can help you manage the pain while also putting you in a better position to enjoy a nice, restful sleep.

In this case, that not only means proper support and pressure relief, but also great temperature regulation and motion isolation, so you don’t needlessly wake up in the middle of the night. A couple of the mattresses on this list even use technologies that give you therapeutic benefits.

So, here’s a look at what mattresses made the cut. Scroll further down and you’ll see short reviews of each mattress to hopefully help you find a suitable bed.

Bear Mattress

  • Graphite and gel infused in the memory foam helps you sleep cooler
  • Great for all types of sleeping positions
  • Pressure relieving, supportive, and conforms well to the shape of your body
  • The therapeutic benefits of the Celliant® cover helps with sleep and recovery
  • Affordable
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Probably not for lightweight side sleepers (the mattress may be too firm)

The inside of the Bear Mattress looks pretty much like most other memory foam mattresses:

  • A layer of memory foam
  • A transitional foam, and
  • A high density base foam

While their design looks pretty basic, their memory foam is actually infused with graphite and gel to help you sleep cool. As most mattresses of this design go, the Bear Mattress is also pressure relieving, supportive, and contours well to the shape of your body. Furthermore, it’s on the firmer side of medium-firm, making it a suitable mattress for all types of sleeping positions. Well, except maybe for lightweight side sleepers who probably want a softer  bed.

Like most memory foam mattresses, the Bear Mattress also isolates movement well. And, thanks to the denser transitional and base foam, edge support seems solid, too.

What truly makes the Bear Mattress one of the best mattresses for fibromyalgia, however, is its Celliant® cover.

Its fibers are imbued with nanoparticles that emit far infrared radiation (FIR) which, according to research, is now recognized as a safe, effective, and popular way to induce the therapeutic benefits of heat therapy (e.g. relaxation, pain relief, improved circulation) without necessarily making you feel like you’re overheating.

The benefits of the Celliant cover is why the Bear Mattress is widely used among athletes, because it helps them recover faster. However, the way we see it, these same athletic benefits can also help anyone with fibromyalgia sleep better and wake up feeling well rested. Oh, and the mattress is pretty darn affordable, too!

Other features of the Bear Mattress:

  • 100-night trial period
  • 10-year warranty
  • Free shipping and returns

Brooklyn Bedding Spartan Hybrid

  • BBB accredited (A+ rating)
  • Multiple firmness options (great for all types of sleepers regardless of weight)
  • Noticeably regulates temperature better than most other mattresses
  • Great for couples (solid edge support and motion isolation)
  • Uses FIR technology (great for relaxation, pain relief, and circulation)
  • Lengthy trial period
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Expensive

Accredited by the Better Business Bureau with an A+ rating, we’re positive that buying from this brand will likely end in a positive experience. That is, of course, if you chose a suitable mattress.

Speaking of which, allow us to introduce Brooklyn Bedding’s Spartan Hybrid.

This mattress comes in multiple firmness options: soft, medium, and firm. The way we see it, these choices make it a suitable mattress for virtually everyone regardless of preferred sleeping position and weight.

That said, let’s talk structure.

To be honest, it’s actually built a lot similar to another Brooklyn Bedding mattress, the Aurora Hybrid. Here’s what they look like from the top-down:

  • CopperFlex™ (with TitanCool™ phase change technology)
  • TitanFlex™ foam
  • Visco-elastic memory foam
  • Ascension X™ coils (individually pocketed)
  • High density support foam

The CopperFlex™, memory foam, and coil layers help make this mattress better at regulating temperatures than most other mattresses, which is actually what we think sets Aurora and Spartan apart from its competition.

Furthermore, both mattresses also isolate movement well and have solid edge support, making them great for couples.

The difference between the Spartan and Aurora, however, is that the former has a cover that uses far infrared radiation (FIR) technology. Similar to the Bear Mattress’ Celliant® cover, this promotes relaxation, circulation, and pain relief.  Honestly, if it weren’t as expensive as it is, this mattress could’ve easily replaced Bear at the top spot.

Other features of the Brooklyn Bedding Spartan Hybrid:

  • 120-night trial period
  • 10-year warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

DreamFoam Bedding Willow

  • Affordable
  • Regulates temperature well (thanks to the latex and convoluted foam layers)
  • Multiple firmness options
  • Great for couples (solid edge support and motion isolation)
  • Latex layer can easily be replaced
  • Lengthy trial period
  • CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX certified

  • Not for you if you’re looking for the hugging feeling of memory foam

Previously known as the Ultimate Dreams Eurotop latex mattress, we think DreamFoam Bedding’s Willow is a great choice if you’re on a budget.

It has quite the simple yet effective design:

  • Quilted Eurotop as the top layer
  • An interchangeable layer of Talalay latex as its middle layer, and
  • A highly dense convoluted foam as its base

In terms of temperature regulation, this mattress does better than most memory foam beds since latex is naturally more breathable and the egg crate shape of the base foam also promotes airflow.

This mattress also isolates movement pretty well. This is actually surprising given that latex typically doesn’t do a good job of limiting movement transfer. Edge support seems pretty solid, too, so it should at least be an okay bed for couples.

In terms of firmness, the Willow can either be soft, firm, or medium depending on which option you choose. What determines the firmness level of the mattress is its latex layer. This layer can also be changed fairly easily (thanks to a zipper on the Eurotop). So, if in case you don’t like your first choice, you can always tell DreamFoam Bedding about it and they’ll ship you another slab of latex foam with a firmness level that better fits your profile.

Now, you might have already noticed that a lot of this bed’s features heavily rely on its latex layer. So, if you’re looking for the hugging feeling you get with memory foam, you’d probably be disappointed. To be fair, the Eurotop does give this mattress a bit of plushiness and adaptability similar to memory foam.

Other features of the DreamFoam Bedding Willow:

  • 120-night trial period
  • 10-year warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • CertiPUR-US® and OEKO-TEX certified

Saatva Classic Mattress

  • Luxurious yet affordable
  • Durable, supportive, and great at regulating temperature and isolating movement (largely due to the coil-on-coil design)
  • Great edge support
  • Spinal Zone Technology helps deal with pain while encouraging restful sleep
  • Multiple firmness options
  • BBB accredited (A+ rating)
  • Lengthy trial period and warranty
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Exclusively sold on their website

Saatva is a BBB accredited business with an A+ rating. More than anything, this tells us that this is a trustworthy company that you can rely on for help if in case you’re having trouble with any of their products.

Having said that, The Saatva Classic Mattress is a prestigious mattress both in its aesthetics and in the way it feels. Even better is that although it’s advertised for luxury, it’s actually quite an affordable mattress.

Moving on, let’s talk about structure.

The Saatva Classic Mattress sports a Euro pillow top and a rarely used coil-on-coil design.

The durable bottom layer of coils are the bed’s base layer while the upper level of pocketed coils help minimize motion transfer. These coils are also largely responsible for the Saatva Classic Mattress’ supportiveness. And, since there’s inherently a lot of air space in between each coil, this design is also particularly great at regulating temperature. Plus, the edge are reinforced so it’s a great choice for couples.

Specifically for dealing with fibromyalgia, this mattress has what it calls the Spinal Zone Technology. Basically, it makes the middle part of the mattress more supportive so your spine is kept at a more neutral position. This technology also involves a strip of memory foam to help relieve pressure. Overall, it helps minimize pain while promoting a relaxing sleep.

Lastly, the Saatva Classic Mattress comes in multiple firmness options: plush soft, luxury firm, and firm. So, there’s essentially an option for everyone, regardless of weight and sleeper type.

Other features of The Saatva Classic Mattress:

  • 120-night trial period
  • 15-year warranty
  • Free white glove delivery but you do need to pay $99 for returns to cover the cost of gas and labor
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

Helix makes mattresses for virtually everyone. So, regardless of your weight or preferred sleeping position, you can rest assured that you can find a suitable bed here. They even custom-make split mattresses if you’re a couple with different mattress needs.

However, since you’re dealing with the aches and pains of fibromyalgia, we specifically recommend their Luxe varieties.

Compared to their standard mattresses, Helix’s Luxe mattresses have:

  • Zoned lumbar support coils that make the mattress softer around your shoulders and firmer around your hips to help keep your spine properly aligned
  • Breathable covers that help regulate sleeping temperatures, and
  • Pillow tops for some much needed comfort

Plus, Helix made their Luxe mattresses thicker — 14 inches, to be specific — which we think is great particularly if you’re having trouble getting in or out of bed.

Helix also has a sleep quiz that can help you choose the right mattress for you. You’ll know if it’s the right one if it feels supportive, pressure relieving, is neither too cold or too hot to sleep on, and has great edge support and motion isolation.

Other features of the Helix Luxe Mattresses:

  • 100-night trial period (the first 30 days are mandatory)

Layla Mattress

Layla Memory Foam Mattress

Check Price

  • BBB accredited (A+ rating)
  • Affordable
  • 2 firmness options in 1 bed
  • Effectively regulates temperature
  • Minimal odor
  • Supportive and pressure relieving (with zoned SMT)
  • Great at isolating movement
  • Generous trial period and warranty
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Edge support could have been better

Layla hasn’t been in the industry quite as long as some of the companies here. In spite of that, they’ve already established themselves as one of the best mattress companies in the world. As a matter of fact, they’ve already been accredited by the Better Business Bureau who also gave them an A+ rating.

Well, that’s enough about the company. Let’s talk about the mattress.

The Layla Memory Foam Mattress is a flippable mattress with different firmness levels on each side — the white/grey side feels soft whereas the black/grey side feels firm — so you’re essentially getting 2 mattresses for the price of 1. Oh, and you know what? It’s actually quite affordable.

On that note, the 2 firmness options make it a safe option for virtually anyone, regardless of weight and sleeper type. We do think it’s particularly great for side sleepers, though.

In terms of design, the Layla Memory Foam Mattress comes with 2 kinds of support foams located right in the middle:

  • Max airflow support foam – Convoluted with zoned surface modification technology (SMT) for better airflow and support where you need it most
  • Support core foam – Highly dense foam which helps limit movement transfer and bounce while also making the mattress more durable and supportive

On either side of these foams are layers of copper-gel memory foam (1 inch on the firm side, 2 inches on the soft side). The copper and gel infused within the foam help regulate temperature while also minimizing odor. Plus, memory foam is innately good at isolating movement and relieving pressure.

All in all, the mattress is great at relieving pressure and supporting the neutral arch of your spine, isolating movement, and regulating temperature — features necessary for a comfortable night’s sleep with hopefully less pain. We do wish this mattress had better edge support though.

Other features of the Layla Memory Foam Mattress:

  • 120-night trial period
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

Avocado Green Mattress

  • Pillow top option (changes thickness and firmness)
  • Supportive and responsive
  • Great motion isolation and edge support (great for couples)
  • Impressive temperature regulation (uses breathable materials)
  • Eco-friendly
  • Generous trial period and warranty
  • Greenguard Gold and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified

  • Expensive
  • Exclusively sold on their website

Before anything else, know that while the Avocado Green Mattress isn’t the most expensive bed on this list, it still is among the pricier ones. That being said, it does come with a generous trial period and warranty. Plus, everything about this mattress is organic — and that costs a lot more to make. So, ultimately, we think the price is justified.

Moving on, the Avocado Green Mattress can come with or without a pillow top. Here’s the difference:

  • With pillow top – Has a firm feel to it, is 11 inches thick, and is more expensive
  • Standard (no pillow top) – Labeled as luxury-plush and is 13 inches thick

We recommend opting for the pillow top if you’re either a back or stomach sleeper or weigh a bit more than the average person. On the other hand, the standard option should do well for lighter sleepers and side sleepers. If you’re average weight, well… you can take your pick.

With regards to design, this mattress is a hybrid that uses organic cotton, wool, Dunlop latex, and coils. The coils are individually wrapped so they’re great at isolating movement, perimeter reinforced to provide great edge support, and strategically arranged to provide more support where you need it most. Factor in the responsiveness and supportiveness of latex and you’ve got yourself an eco-friendly, pain-relieving mattress that helps keep your spine in a neutral position.

Oh, and the Avocado Mattress is also great at regulating temperatures since latex, coils, and wool are naturally breathable.

Other features of the Avocado Green Mattress:

  • 1-year trial period
  • 25-year warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • Greenguard Gold and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified

The Wave Mattress Hybrid

  • BBB accredited (A+ rating)
  • Perforated latex, gel pods, and coils effectively regulate temperature
  • Supportive, responsive, and pressure relieving
  • Great for couples (better edge support than all-foam counterpart)
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Expensive
  • Softer than what most people might prefer (not for heavyweights)

If you’ve done your research on mattresses, there’s a good chance you’ve come across Casper. After all, it’s one of the most well-known companies in the industry. It’s also BBB accredited with an A+ rating, so we’re confident that they treat their customers well.

Now, when it comes to the Casper Wave, it actually comes in 2 variations: all-foam and hybrid. The difference between the 2 beds is that the all-foam version uses high-density support foam for its base whereas the hybrid version uses pocketed coils.

We’ll talk about the difference between the two in a bit but for now, let’s talk about the top layers.

From the top-down, this mattress uses comfort foam, perforated latex, memory foam, and a highly resilient foam with gel pods. These layers alone make for a supportive and pressure relieving mattress that effectively regulates temperature.

Now, let’s talk about the base — foam vs. coils.

Although more expensive, we recommend the hybrid for sleepers with fibromyalgia simply because coils are naturally more breathable and responsive than foam. Also, from what we gathered, the hybrid version also seems to be more supportive, making it better for pain relief. Compared to its all-foam counterpart, the hybrid also has better edge support, making it a better choice for couples or for when you find it hard to get in or out of bed.

Lastly, the mattress has a medium feel to it which is softer than what most people would prefer. As such, we recommend this to lightweight individuals or average-weight sleepers who prefer softer mattresses. If you’re larger, it might be best to look elsewhere.

Other features of the Casper Wave Hybrid:

  • 100-night trial period
  • 10-year warranty
  • Free shipping and returns

Awara Sleep

  • Impressive temperature regulation
  • Responsive, supportive, and great at isolating movement
  • Good for back and stomach sleepers
  • Affordable
  • Organic materials
  • Generous trial period and warranty
  • Rainforest Alliance and CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Exclusively sold on their website
  • Not as pressure relieving as memory foam, so it’s probably not ideal for side sleepers

We think the Awara mattress is one of the best eco-friendly beds in the world. It also comes with a generous 1-year trial period and forever warranty.

We feel the need to point this out since organic mattresses and mattresses with trial periods and warranties beyond the standard typically cost a pretty penny. The Awara? Well, it’s surprisingly affordable. Needless to say, the price-to-value ratio on this mattress is just phenomenal.

That being said, the Awara is a latex hybrid, so it’s made with coils and latex foam. Here’s an overview of its design (from the top-down):

  • Euro top made with organic wool and cotton
  • Dunlop latex
  • Individually wrapped coils

Latex is more responsive than memory foam, so changing positions won’t be hard. On the other hand, the individually wrapped coils add even support and motion isolation which minimizes the chance of you being disturbed from your slumber, regardless of what sleeping position you take.

Moreover, the Awara is also great at regulating temperatures since latex, wool, and coils are naturally breathable.

The problem, however, is that latex and coils aren’t as good at relieving pressure as memory foam. As such, we don’t think this would be a suitable bed for side sleepers. But, if you’re a back or stomach sleeper, the even support should feel great.

Other features of the Awara:

  • 365-night (1 year) trial period
  • Forever warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • Rainforest Alliance and CertiPUR-US® certified

Level Sleep Mattress

  • Zoned performance layer helps with spinal alignment and pressure relief
  • Great for all sleepers regardless of weight
  • Great for side sleepers and back sleepers
  • Good motion isolation and temperature regulation
  • Generous trial period and warranty
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

  • Weak edge support
  • Exclusively sold on their website
  • Probably not for stomach sleepers

The Level Sleep Mattress is an all-foam mattress that, like a lot of other foam mattresses, have 3 different layers:

  • A top layer of Enduroplush® high resiliency (HR) foam
  • A second layer of Energex® foam, and
  • A base layer of high density polyfoam

Now, what makes this bed unique (and great for people with fibromyalgia) is its zoned performance layer — or basically the second of Energex® foam. The 1st zone feels soft to cradle your head and shoulders; the 2nd zone feels firm to help provide maximum support for your trunk; and the 3rd zone has a medium feel to it so your hips don’t sag too much.

Essentially, these different zones are meant to keep your spine as properly aligned as possible while also relieving pressure on common high pressure areas (e.g. your shoulders and ships).

Theoretically, this design should be capable of accommodating sleepers from all weight classes but, honestly, this might not be firm enough for stomach sleepers. Still, it’s quite the versatile mattress.

The Level Sleep Mattress’ ability to regulate temperature and isolate movement seems pretty good, too. However, it might not be the best for couples since it doesn’t offer a lot of edge support.

Other features of the Level Sleep Mattress:

  • 365-night (1 year) trial period
  • Forever warranty
  • Free shipping and returns
  • CertiPUR-US® certified

Things to consider before buying mattresses for fibromyalgia

When you’re dealing with the agony that comes with fibromyalgia, you’re going to want a mattress that helps reduce the aches and pains from the night you lay on your mattress to the morning after you wake up.

For this to happen, you’re going to want to consider a few of the things we also thought about when we made this list. So you don’t have to scroll back up, here’s a little recap:

  • Pressure relief and support (helps keep your spine in a neutral position while also minimizing pain)
  • Temperature regulation (since fibromyalgia can make you hypersensitive to temperature)
  • Motion isolation and edge support (so you don’t wake up in the middle of the night when your partner moves around)

Apart from these, here are a few other things you should ask yourself buying a mattress:

What is your preferred sleeping position?

Basically, you can either be a side, back, or stomach sleeper. If you sleep on your side, you’re a side sleeper and if you sleep on your back or stomach, well… you get the point.

These different sleeper types/positions also require different things from their mattresses, so it’s vital that you figure this out before spending a single penny. If you’ve already identified what type of sleeper you are, here’s what your type usually prefers:

If you’re a side sleeper…

You’re going to be putting more pressure on your hips and shoulders. If your mattress is too hard and you manage to sleep, you’ll likely end up feeling sore around these areas. On the other hand, if your mattress is too soft, your spine won’t get the support it needs.

So, we recommend looking for a mattress that’s advertised as medium or medium-firm. These should be soft enough to relieve pressure on your hips and shoulders while still being firm enough to keep your spine in its neutral position.

The best mattress for side sleepers with fibromyalgia: Layla Memory Foam Mattress

If you’re a back sleeper…

Then you likely wouldn’t feel comfortable on softer mattresses. These mattresses aren’t supportive enough so your hips and belly will sag and make it feel like you’re sleeping on a hammock rather than a bed.

That said, you might want to pick a mattress that’s firm, or maybe even a medium-firm mattress that’s on the firmer end of the scale. Even better is if you can find a mattress with some type of zoned support that makes it firmer around the middle and softer everywhere else. These types of mattresses are typically better at keeping your spine in place.

The best mattress for back sleepers with fibromyalgia: The Saatva Classic Mattress

If you’re a stomach sleeper…

Then we want you to consider shifting to a different position. Stomach sleeping has been associated with causing and aggravating back pain for healthy people. So, we imagine it would be even worse if you have fibromyalgia.

Perhaps try sleeping on your back instead and see if that works for you.

However, if you really had to sleep on your stomach, then it’s all about support, support, and support. You typically get this with firmer mattresses so try to find those.

The best mattress for stomach sleepers with fibromyalgia: The Saatva Classic Mattress

How much do you weigh?

Another thing you should consider when buying a mattress is the number that shows up on the weighing scale. It matters less if that weight (or lack thereof) comes from fat, muscle, or height — your weight will affect how comfortable you are when you sleep.

If you’re a large person…

You’re going to be putting more pressure on your mattress. As such, choosing a soft bed wouldn’t be wise as you’ll only sink and mess up the alignment of your spine, not to mention the heat you’ll be generating when you sink and cover more surface area.

In this case, pick a firmer mattress than what most other people would prefer as these mattresses should be more capable of supporting your weight.

The best mattress for large sleepers with fibromyalgia: Bear Mattress

If you’re petite…

Then it’s pretty much the opposite. Since you won’t be putting a lot of pressure on your mattress, it shouldn’t be firm. Otherwise, it’ll feel like you’re sleeping on concrete.

Instead, choose a softer mattress. Somewhere between soft and medium, perhaps. This way, you’ll get just the right amount of pressure relief and support to feel comfortable.

The best mattress for petite sleepers with fibromyalgia: Casper Wave Hybrid

If you weigh about average…

Medium-firm mattresses should be a safe choice. However, an even better course of action would be to think about your preferred sleeping position instead.

Have you read what other people have to say?

When you’re buying a mattress from the internet, you won’t be able to test them out before it’s delivered to your house — and that’s after you’ve paid the full price. You could always return it for a full refund, of course, but even with the best customer service, the process can still be a hassle.

The solution? Read customer reviews.

Specifically, find the reviews of people who have a similar body structure and preferred sleeping position as you do. This way, you can get a better idea on how the mattress will feel like to you.

Maintaining your mattress

Let’s face it. Mattresses are expensive. I mean, even the DreamFoam Bedding Willow, our team’s budget pick, still costs more than a few hundred dollars. So, you’re going to want to protect it.

And, more importantly, it’s hard to find a mattress that can effectively reduce the pain that comes with fibromyalgia. So, when you do find one that does the job, you’re going to want to be able to use it for as long as possible.

Here are a few tips that’ll help:

Regularly change your sheets

Your sheets are your mattress’ first line of defense against nasty little things that can cut its life short. These things include dead skin, hair, sweat, crumbs, fluids, and a bunch of other stuff that can attract bugs and mites.

After just a few days of constant use, your sheets will be filled with these things even if it still actually looks clean.

Therefore, we recommend you change your sheets regularly. About once a week should be enough just to be safe.

Use a mattress protector

Using a mattress protector is another way you can defend your mattress from nasty little buggers. It’ll be tucked under your sheets so you won’t actually see them. You will, however, feel it. So, we suggest you pick one that can add comfort to your mattress.

Moreover, these mattress protectors can either be tops or covers. Covers protect your entire mattress so it’s what we recommend.

Specifically, we use Slumber Cloud’s Dryline Mattress Protector because we think it helps regulate sleeping temperatures and it also does a solid job of protecting our mattresses from fluids and debris.

Vacuum your mattress

Sometimes, even if you regularly change your sheets and use the best mattress protector you can get your hands on, some of those bug- and mite-attracting things can still find their way to your mattress.

In this case, whip out your vacuum and use it to suck up the surface of your mattress. Even if your mattress looks clean and bug-free, vacuum it anyway as there might be things that are smaller than you can see.

You don’t have to do this every time you change your sheets though. Every once in a while should be enough.

No jumping on the bed!

Jumping on your bed puts it under a lot of pressure. You probably won’t notice it right away especially if you have an exceptionally durable mattress but soon enough, repeatedly jumping on your mattress will take its toll. You’ll see it sag and it’ll feel lumpy because of uneven wear. When this happens, it’ll be too uncomfortable to use.

That being said, try to find something else to do when you or the kids need to release some energy.

Flip or rotate your mattress

Before you do this, check with your mattress’ manufacturer first. Some of them don’t actually recommend that you flip or rotate your mattress because it messes with their design and, consequently, how comfortable you feel on them.

However, if they do recommend flipping and/or rotating, by all means do. This helps promote even wear on your mattress so no single part breaks prematurely.

Use the right foundation

If you aren’t using a foundation at all, we highly recommend you do.

The right foundation will complement the structure of your mattress which, in turn, helps distribute weight and pressure. Moreover, it elevates your mattress off the floor and keeping it away from the same dust, dead skin, crumbs, and everything else that can attract bed-killing bugs and mites.

Now, if you’re not sure what type of foundation you should be using, your mattress’ manufacturer will almost certainly do. As such, we suggest you check out their website and find the information you need. A lot of these manufacturers also sell their own foundations so you can buy from them, too.

In a nutshell, we think the Bear Mattress is the best mattress for fibromyalgia. The graphite and gel infused within their memory foam layers helps regulate temperature, its firmness level makes it a suitable mattress for most sleeper types, and it uses FIR technology to provide therapeutic effects that can be beneficial to anyone feeling aches and pains.

There are other mattresses on this list that offer similar benefits, sure, but the Bear Mattress is also an affordable option.

Naturally, you don’t have to agree with us on this. After all, there are other awesome mattresses on this list that you can choose from. And, in case you don’t like any of them, that’s alright, too. You can always use the things we considered when we compiled this list and use them as a criteria to find other mattresses.

To end this, we do hope this helped and we wish you the best of luck in finding a suitable mattress. So, if helped in some way, do tell your friends about it.
