You read that title right, this is an article about the best fats for weight loss. It might seem confusing since fats are well known for causing weight gain and creating an unhealthy diet, but there are fats that you can consume which do not contribute to you gaining weight.

In this article, we will be giving some of the best fats which won’t contribute to your weight gain.

What are fats?

Fats are known by their other name which is ‘lipids’. We obtain fat in two ways, which is by the food we eat and through the fat that is produced by our bodies.

Because of how we have associated the word fat, you can’t help but feel negative about the word. However, fats are actually an essential part of being able to perform day to day activities well since we get our energy from fats, and it also helps in maintaining a healthy body.

Types of fat

Before we head on to the list of healthy fats, it would be good for you to be familiar with the different types of fat.

Saturated fats

This is the type of fat that we are most likely familiar with. Saturated fats are fats which are solid at room temperature. They are also known as unhealthy fats, because these are the types of fat that when consumed too much and too often can lead to a variety of health complications, such as cardiovascular diseases, stroke, even weight gain.

Some examples of saturated fats are butter, cheese, and red meat.

Unsaturated fats

Unsaturated fats are considered healthier, and when used as an alternative can lower down cholesterol levels and prevent health complications, such as heart disease and cancer.

Unsaturated fats are commonly in the form of oils or spreads, unlike saturated fats which are originally solid when in room temperature. 

Most unsaturated fats can be found in plant oils, and there are two types of unsaturated fats:

Monounsaturated fats

Monounsaturated fats are commonly found in avocado oil, nuts, and many others.

Some of the benefits of monounsaturated fats is that it reduces the risk of heart disease and weight gain.

Polyunsaturated fats

Polyunsaturated fat contributes vitamin E to your body which is essential in maintaining the body’s cells. Also, polyunsaturated fats are capable of producing oils such as omega-6 and omega-3  which our body cannot produce alone.

Trans fats

Trans fats are artificial fats, they are not natural, and is not vitally essential to our health. In fact, one of the main reasons why production of trans fats is rampant is due to its versatility, it’s cheaper, easy to make, lasts for a long time, and it gives off more flavor than the natural oils that we have.

Trans Fats are usually found in fast food chains, and since trans fats offer more flavor and fast foods are high in demand, production of trans fats are abundant.

Now that we have finished identifying the different types of fats, we can go to the list of fats which are good at achieving weight loss.

1. Olive oil

Aside from being a monounsaturated fat, olive oil has many benefits other than for food consumption. It is also a good beauty remedy for hair, skin, and nails.

They are rich in antioxidants and vitamin E and K which help in promoting healthy bones, skin, muscles, and maintaining healthy cells in the body.

A factor on how olive oil helps you in losing weight relies on its content, there is an acid of olive oil called oleic acid which assists an enzyme that promotes weight loss.

2. Avocado oil

Avocado is one of the top fruits which are rich in fat. It has many benefits both on consumption and beauty care. 

It carries the same acid found in olive oil called oleic acid which helps in weight loss. In addition to this, avocado oil also has other benefits such as, lutein which is good for maintaining healthy eyes, promoting healthy skin and easy healing of wounds, effective absorption of nutrients, and many others.

3. Coconut oil

Most of us know that coconut oil is good for the hair, but it’s also good for losing weight.

For starters, it can boost your metabolism. Coconut oil is a medium-chain triglyceride which is a type of fat that helps in metabolism and weight loss, including stubborn belly fat. Also, coconut oil tends to make you feel full longer, decreasing food consumption.

4. Macadamia nut oil

Other than being a delicious finger food or snack, macadamia oil is also effective in helping you lose weight.
