Discount Gift Cards

Whatever the occasion, whoever you’re giving it to, gift cards are perhaps America’s—no, the world’s—favorite gift. They save us, the givers, the trouble of having to choose exactly what to give while giving the giftee the freedom to buy whatever he/she wants.

Some of you might say it’s a lazy gift but personally, I think it’s practical especially considering how you can get one at a price that’s cheaper than the amount reflected on the card—some even for free!

That being said, I’ve listed a few of my favorite places to get discount gift cards for the nation’s top retailers.

The best places to get discount gift cards online

1. Gift Card Granny

If we’re talking about buying discount gift cards online, we might as well start with one of the most popular ones out there: Gift Card Granny.

Personally, I think this is one of, if not the most convenient sites out there to buy discount gift cards as they sell both their own and their partner store’s cards.

If it’s buying from one of their partner stores, Gift Card Granny is going to show you a list of other websites where you can get the best deals from. Quite unselfish considering they’re funneling their audience towards their competitors—and that’s why I love it!

Speaking of competitors, the next few sites on this list are great examples.

2. Cardpool

Cardpool is one of many gift card resellers and it’s also one of the best.

Keyword: resellers. Meaning, they buy and sell gift cards.

When you want to buy gift cards from Cardpool, you can get as much as a 35% discount. On the other hand, selling gift cards, whether they’re old or new, can get you as much as 92% of the card’s value.

That being said, all transactions done on Cardpool come with free USPS shipping.

To me, this is a great system for when you have gift cards that just aren’t convenient. For instance, if you receive a gift card for a retailer that’s nowhere near you, or a gift card for a retailer that you don’t shop at.

3. CardCash

CardCash works in pretty much the exact same way as Cardpool

Here, you can also buy or sell gift cards. Their rates are the same, too, with buying fetching you as much as a 35% discount and selling getting you as much as 92% of the card’s value. Plus, CardCash also has free shipping via USPS.

4. RetailMeNot

This site is all about helping you save money and they do that with cash back, coupons, and of course, discount gift cards.

Specifically for gift cards, when you buy these cards from RetailMeNot, you automatically also earn cash back that will be credited to your account minutes after your purchase. Cash back rates depend on the deals you bought but nonetheless, I think this is a great setup.

Besides the gift cards, however, RetailMeNot also has RxSaver – an app that helps you save on prescription medication. Essentially, it compares prices from different pharmacies and gets you free coupons so you can easily save money on medicine.

What’s more, RetailMeNot also has Genie – a browser extension that helps you cut back on shopping fees by automatically applying cashback offers and coupon codes at checkout.

On that note, these 4 are my favorite places to buy discount gift cards. However, what if I told you that there are sites where you can get gift cards for free?

Yes. FREE!

The best places to get gift cards for FREE

Getting gift cards at a discount is great but what’s even better is getting them for FREE. Moreover, there are ways to get them by doing things you’re likely doing anyway, so it’s never a hassle.

How, you ask? Well, two ways.

One, sharing your opinions and two, shopping. It’s literally that easy.

Here are some of the best sites I go to for free gift cards.

5. Swagbucks

Swagbucks is one of the most well-known survey sites out there. Once you become a member, the site is going to allow you to complete surveys that you’re qualified for which they will then give you points for.

These points can be used to redeem rewards which, naturally, includes gift cards for several of the country’s top retailers.

Now, although Swagbucks is better known for its surveys, there’s actually A LOT more to do here than just sharing your opinions. You could also easily earn points through cashback shopping, watching videos, playing their games, or using their Yahoo! powered search engine.

To make things even easier, Swagbucks also has a browser extension that notifies you of sales, cashback offers, and available coupons when you’re on one of their affiliate stores. Not only that, they also have an app where you can do the same activities and earn points anywhere you go.

6. MyPoints

From Prodege, LLC, MyPoints comes from the same company that made Swagbucks

However, while Swagbucks earns you points through a variety of ways, MyPoints is pretty much a cashback site. So, basically, you shop on over 2000 retailers through their website and earn cashback in the form of points.

As usual, these points can be used to redeem gift cards or cash via PayPal.

7. Prize Rebel

This is another survey site that also has a points reward system.

It’s one of my top picks simply because of the variety of gift cards to choose from once you’ve gathered enough points. In fact, as of writing, they have over 500 kinds of redeemable gift cards

If none of the numerous gift cards aren’t your cup of tea though, that’s fine. Prize Rebel’s points can also be exchanged for online game codes, items from Amazon, or cash via PayPal.

8. Harris Poll Online

Uhh.. Another survey site. But, again, my opinion, it’s also one of the best.

They pay you points for completing surveys which can then be used to redeem rewards such as electronic gift cards.

What I like about Harris Poll Online, however, is that even if you don’t qualify for a survey, you can be redirected to a shopping portal where the site gives you coupons. You never lose.

9. Opinion Outpost

You get the trend here, don’t you? Opinion Outpost is another survey site where you can get gift cards for free (through points).

Honestly though, it’s not as easy to earn points here compared to Swagbucks. It also doesn’t give you coupons you can use every time you’re disqualified from a survey like Harris Poll Online.

That said, a big reason why Opinion Outpost is one of my top picks when it comes to free gift cards is that they donate $10,000 every month to the American Red Cross. By taking part in their surveys, you help the site, and consequently their charitable donations, alive.

10. GlobalTestMarket

Like all the other survey sites on this list, GlobalTestMarket gives you the opportunity to earn points (and therefore rewards) for sharing your opinion.

These rewards include e-gift certificates. They’re not quite “gift cards” but, hey, it’s something that you can use to buy products online. So, really, I don’t see much of a difference.

Also, they have an app called LifePoints where you can answer surveys and earn points from. Plus, every time you’re disqualified from taking a survey or complete it, you earn an entry to their quarterly sweepstakes.

11. Toluna

Speaking of surveys and sweepstakes, Toluna is another one of those sites.

The difference between Toluna and GlobalTestMarket, however, is that Toluna’s sweepstakes happen everyday.

Also, besides using the points you get from completing surveys to redeem gift cards, Toluna also allows you to use your points to get more sweepstakes entries.

Now that we’ve talked about getting free gift cards from answering surveys, let’s move on to the sites that get you these cards through shopping. Or, more specifically, cashback and receipts. Check them out.

12. Rakuten (Formerly Ebates)

I feel like if we’re talking about cashback, Ebates always has to be in the conversation. After all, it’s one of the most visited cashback sites in America.

To make the most of their cashback opportunities, I suggest you get yourself their Ebates (Rakuten) credit card. Using the credit card gets you 1% cash back on EVERYTHING! Moreover, if you use their credit card to purchase any of the deals found on their website, you get 3% added to the original cash back offer.

Speaking of deals, some of their deals get you gift cards on top of the cash back–some of these gift cards are worth even more than what you pay for. As a matter of fact, I recently saw a deal that says “Get up to a $500 gift card with select purchase of $200+”. I mean, that’s just awesome.

13. Mr. Rebates

I think Mr. Rebates is right up there with Ebates as two of the best cash back sites in the world. With an app and a browser extension, it’s also quite the convenient option.

Here, you can redeem your cash back in the form of check, PayPal cash, or gift cards from numerous retailers.

14. Fetch Rewards

Use code, 7D6YQ, during signup and you’ll get 3,000 Fetch Points just for starting.

Apart from cash back, you can also get free gift cards by taking clear pictures of your recent receipts. One of the sites you can do that with is Fetch Rewards.

This app bases its rewards on grocery products (not retailers) which means you can get your stuff anywhere you want. Plus, it’s incredibly easy to use. Simply take a picture of your receipt and the app does everything for you. If you have an item on your receipt that they have an offer for, they will give you points for it. The points can then be used to redeem all sorts of gift cards.

15. ReceiptPal

Like Fetch Rewards, ReceiptPal is an app on your phone that you can use to get free gift cards from your receipts.

It’s a little more complicated here though.

Basically, the app gives you a “point card” which you will have to fill with pictures of 4 different receipts. Every completed point card gives you 100 points that you can use to redeem gift cards.

Despite being slightly more complicated, however, ReceiptPal offers more incentive. Specifically, in the form of sweepstakes. Every receipt you upload is an entry. So, the more you shop, the more chances you have of winning.

Discount gift cards make great presents but even if you don’t want to give them away, they make great ways to save and/or make money.

If you have a retailer you always go to, I think it’s always a good idea to check if there are gift cards you can get at a price that’s cheaper than their face value. Another option is to sell the gift cards you don’t use and make money off of them.

That’s all, folks! If this was any help to you, do me a favor and share it with your friends!
